Introduction
I have learned that it is important to have a good understanding of the fundamentals of how suspension works. The “Suspension Basics” learning series is intended to teach the fundamentals of how dampers, springs, and leverage ratios in suspension systems work. Later, other articles and learning series will be released that contain more detail about specific topic areas.
Why is it important to understand how suspension works?
A few examples of why it is valuable to understand how suspension works include:
- Better understanding when doing your own modifications, repairs, and adjustments.
- Make better decisions about how to spend your money if you are investing in suspension components, suspension modifications, or new suspension.
- Communicate more effectively about what you want done if you are paying someone else to modify, repair, or adjust your suspension and better understand explanations about work that was done on your suspension.
What types of machines is the information in this series relevant to?
This learning series is intended to teach the fundamental concepts related to how the suspension works that is used in many different types of machines. Examples of the types of machines include, but is not limited to:

After covering the Damper, Spring, and Leverage Ratio topic areas, the series will conclude with several articles that show how Dampers, Springs, and Leverage Ratios work together to perform as suspension.
